Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026
This policy explains what information Life in the UK Test Practice ("the website", "we", "our") collects, why, and what choices you have. Contact here.
1. The short version
- You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your name or email to use the website.
- Your quiz progress is saved in your own browser, on your device. It is not sent to us.
- With your consent, we and some third parties use analytics, session recording, advertising and measurement tools that set cookies or similar technologies. Those tools stay off until you consent.
- The website is hosted on Netlify, whose servers are mainly in the United States.
2. Data stored on your device (My Progress)
To save your progress, the website uses your browser's local storage. This can include:
- the questions you have answered and whether you got them right
- questions you have flagged
- your mock exam scores and your readiness score
- your settings
This data stays on your device. We can't see it. It is needed for the practice tool to work, so it doesn't require consent. You can delete it at any time with the "Reset progress" option on the My Progress page, or by clearing your browser's site data. You can also export and import your progress. If you clear your browser data or use another device or browser, your progress will not be there.
3. Hosting and server logs
The website is hosted by Netlify, Inc. When you visit, Netlify's servers process technical information needed to deliver and secure the site, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested, and the date and time. This is held in standard server logs for no longer than 7 days, and is used for security, reliability and fixing problems. Netlify's privacy policy: https://www.netlify.com/privacy/
4. Cookies and consent
Cookies and similar technologies that are not strictly necessary stay off unless you consent. They are grouped as:
- Necessary: needed for the website to work and to remember your cookie choice. These do not need consent.
- Analytics and site improvement: Google Analytics 4, Matomo, Hotjar and Microsoft Clarity (see section 5).
- Advertising and measurement: Google AdSense and the Facebook (Meta) Pixel (see section 6).
Non-essential tools only run after you give consent. Google Tag Manager is included on each page. Analytics and advertising tags stay off until you consent. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
5. Analytics and site improvement tools
With your consent, we use these tools to understand how the website is used and to improve it:
- Google Analytics 4 (Google): measures visits, pages viewed and how visitors reach the site.
- Matomo: web analytics.
- Hotjar: heatmaps and session recordings, which show where visitors click and scroll and how they move around pages.
- Microsoft Clarity: heatmaps and session recordings.
These tools may collect your IP address, device and browser information, pages visited, clicks, scrolling, mouse movements and time on page, and they set cookies or similar identifiers. We don't ask you to enter personal details on this website, and we configure the recording tools to hide any text you type. We use the results in aggregate to improve the site.
6. Advertising and measurement
With your consent, the following are used for advertising and measuring it:
- Google AdSense (Google): shows advertising on the website. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, device identifiers and similar technologies to show ads, including personalised ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites, and to measure and prevent fraud.
- Facebook Pixel (Meta): measures how visitors interact with the website after seeing our content or ads on Meta services and helps us show relevant ads there. Meta may receive information such as the pages you visit and your IP address and browser details.
If you don't consent, personalised advertising and these measurement tools are not used. Google's explanation of how it uses advertising cookies: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads. You can manage personalised ads at https://adssettings.google.com. We don't control cookies set by third parties, so see their own policies below.
